Assam violence worse than Orissa: Mahanta
Former Assam chief minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta here on Sunday sought the intervention of the Central government in containing the situation which he described “worst than Orissa”.
After visiting the violence hit district on Sunday, Mr Mahanta said, “Despite the government clamping cur few and issuing shoot-onsight orders, violence is continuing and there are complaints that there is no security forces present in several vulnerable areas.”
Referring to the involvement of militants group as claimed by chief minister Tarun Gogoi, he said: “It is simply a refrain. There have been several ethnic clashes in the past also but all the time Gogoi has failed to protect the people.”
He dared Mr Gogoi to publish a white paper on all the ethnic clashes that took place since 2001.
