Singh picks 31 new ministers in team

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will expand his Cabinet on Thursday by inducting 59 members into the ministry.

In all, there will be 31 new faces in the ministry. There are nine former chief ministers, and two first-time MP will be made Union ministers: Mr M.K. Azhagiri of Tamil Nadu and Mr C.P.Joshi of Rajasthan. The DMK gets three Cabinet berths, and Tamil Nadu will have eight berths in all.

Among the 59 to become ministers, Mr Deshmukh is not a member of Parliament. UP is the only state which does not have a Cabinet-rank minister. MP, Rajasthan and Gujarat will have three ministers each while Karnataka, Punjab, Delhi and Meghalaya will have two each.
