India gets it right with 7 in one go

Proving its reliability once again, Isro's workhorse rocket PSLV hoisted the 960-kg Oceansat-2 and six smaller satellites into space with textbook precision on Wednesday.

The ocean-scanning satellite will help fishermen save lakhs of rupees each year and provide data for better weather forecasting.

The 44.4 metre 230-tonne PSLV C-14 rose into the clear sky at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Shar, Sriharikota, 90 km from Nellore, at 11.51 am.

Nellore villagers spot Unidentified Flying Objects, twice

People of Yelloku, a tiny village in Doravarisathram mandal of PSR Nellore district, are keeping their eyes on the sky. On June 24, some residents reportedly spotted unidentified flying objects (UFO) twice in the sky. Since then, everyone has become a bit of a skygazer.

“Initially we thought it was an aircraft. But we were taken aback when the object came close to the earth from the west and remained stationary for a while before gliding off towards the east at an unimaginable speed at about 7.30 pm,” Mr K. Mahesh and Mr B. Shalim, both residents of the village, said. Mr Shalim said he again spotted the object in the eastern sky at about 2 am.

Another villager, Mr Mahesh, even managed to click pictures of the UFO using his cellphone. Although the images are blurred, a bright circular light can be seen. Mr Mahesh said he noticed colourful lights as well.

Rs 40 crore drug racket busted: MD booked

A massive drug racket having links with the Chennai and Mumbai underworld was busted in the city by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence.

DRI sleuths seized 100 kg of Ketamine, a hallucinatory drug, Ephedrine, a sex performance enhancer, and Acetic Anhydride, which is used to prepare heroin, in raids conducted in the city and Nellore. The seized drugs are valued to be around Rs 40 crore.

Three companies, Krebs of Nellore, and SS Research and Hygia from Hyderabad, were involved in the racket. Mr P. Venkateswaralu, 42, of SS Research, Shahul Hameed, 46, Sebastian Toni Raj, 34, M. Murali, 44, and Katif Salih Shafi of Chennai, and V. Kiran Raj Bhandari, 45, of Mumbai were arrested. They were produced in a Secunderabad court on Wednesday.
