United Kingdom shuttlers pull out
The Badminton World Federation (BWF) announced on Sunday that the nine-member English contingent had pulled out of the world badminton championships, beginning at the SAAP Indoor Stadium in Gachibowli on Monday.
Citing security and safety concerns as the reason behind the decision, BWF analysed it to be an inaccurate newspaper report that convinced the team to come up with the decision.
Badminton England, on the other hand, said the decision to withdraw was taken after media reports of a specific Lashkar-eTayyaba terrorist threat to the championships and concerns about the English team potentially being a target in the event of a terrorist act.
