Queen mom hated Diana outbursts

The late Queen's Mother reacted with "utter abhorrence" to Princess Diana's decision to "wash the dirty linen in public" by disclosing details of the breakdown of her marriage, according to her official biography.

The book, Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother: The Official Biography, which was published on Thursday, also describes how she was dismayed by Prince Charles' decision to admit adultery on a television programme.

The royal matriarch, who i died in March 2002 aged 101, suffered from colon cancer and had a tumour removed in 1966.

Renigunta airport cleared

The Centre’s decision to develop Renigunta airport at a cost of Rs 1,000 crore will boost religious tourism and develop Rayalaseema region.

Thousands of devotees from the United States, Britain and other parts of the world visit Tirupati every year for the darshan of Lord Venkateswara.

At present, they are put to hardship because of the lack of connectivity and have to catch connecting flights from Chennai, Mumbai or Hyderabad to reach Tirupati. The frequency of flights will increase once the airport is modernised and the runway is extended to 11,000 feet from 7,500 feet. The airport will also be expanded to accommodate at least 700 passengers at once. Night landing facility is already present.

Centre offers talks

The all party meeting chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at his residence here on Wednesday over the continuing violence in the Jammu region decided to initiate immediate direct talks with the protesters.

The violence has been raging all over Jammu for the past month after the state government cancelled its decision to hand over 100 acres of land to the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board.

While the government has appealed for peace, BJP president Rajnath Singh stood his ground and reiterated his party’s demands: that the state’s new governor, Mr N.N. Vohra be recalled, the land in question be handed over to the shrine board; and that the government hold immediate talks with the Shri Amarnath Sangarsh Samiti.
