SocialTwist Tell-a-Friend
The Maharashtra government put an end to its dilly-dallying over how to stop the spread of swine flu by declaring that all educational institutions in Mumbai would be shut for seven days from Thursday. The shutdown order also applies to theatres that will have to close for three days from 4 pm on Thursday. The deputy chief minister, Mr Chhagan Bhujbal, made the announcement on Wednesday.

While not shutting down malls for some reason, Mr Bhujbal appealed to malls to ensure that they don't announce sales to attract crowds. It was the same state government which had refused to implement the Mexico pattern for Mumbai -- shutting down all public places till the virus loses its potency.

Six more people died on Wednesday, five of them in Pune and a 28-year-old doctor in Nashik, raising the nationwide death toll to 17.
