`Messiah' laid to rest in native Pulivendula

The state bid an emotional farewell to Dr Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, who was laid to rest in Idupulapaya estate in his native village of Pulivendula on Friday evening amid chants of "YSR Amar Rahe".

The funeral was advanced to 4.35 pm, after warnings that the helicopters carrying the Chief Minister, Mr K. Rosaiah, and other ministers could face bad weather.

The sprawling 200-acre lush green Idupulapaya valley echoed with slogans after Dr Reddy's body was brought in an IAF helicopter from Hyderabad.

Chief Minister swings nuke plant

A three-member committee of the Nuclear Power Corporation Limited (NPCL) visited villages at Pulivendula, constituency of the Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, on Thursday to identify land to set up a 2,000-mega watt nuclear power project.

This comes close on the heels of the Chief Minister announcing that a nuclear power plant will be set up in the state.

Mr S. Thakur, NPCL executive director, planning, said the plant would be set up jointly by the NPC and the APGenco (AP Generation Corporation).
