Andhra Pradesh Mourns its favourite son

The Chief Minister, Dr Y.S.Rajasekhar Reddy, was found dead on Thursday in a remote hillock in the thick jungles of Nallamala forest, a tragic ending to the life of a beloved leader who was poised to be come a giant in politics.

Also dead along with Dr Reddy were the four other occupants of the state government helicopter which flew into a hillock in the thick forests of Nallamala Hills in Kurnool district in inclement weather.

Dr Reddy's tragic demise plunged the state and the country into shock and grief on Thursday.

Cheif Minister to get executive jet for Rs 150 crore

The government is planning to buy a new executive jet costing Rs 130 crore to Rs 150 crore for the Chief Minister, Dr Y.S Rajasekhar Reddy. The infrastructure and investment department put up the proposal to the finance minister, Mr K. Rosaiah, who held a budget preparatory meeting with officials on Monday.

Sources told this correspondent that the chief secretary, Mr P. Ramakanth Reddy, gave in principle approval for the purchase and forwarded it for approval from the finance wing. The finance ministry was asked to allot Rs 80 crore in the present budget which would be paid as advance for the jet.

The jet will be put to exclusive use of the Chief Minister for long distance travel within the state and outside.

Y S Rajasekhar Reddy thanks voters, gives 30 kg rice, 9 hour free power

Dr Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy struck at the very roots of the Telugu Desam, the Congress’ arch-rival in the state, as he took the oath for the second term as Chief Minister.

Dr Reddy said that regional parties could not stick to ideology and only a national party like the Congress could give good governance in a secular format.

He pointed out that the Congress had never compromised on ideology, a dig at the policy flip-flops of the Telugu Desam and the CPI(M).
